Filter authorisation in Power BI

The filter authorisation you already know as an administrator from Profit and InSite can now also be deployed in Power BI. Separate BI models are available for this purpose. If you want to apply filter authorisation in a BI model, you need the BI model and the 'authorisation model'. For example, do you want to apply filter authorisation by employee in the BI model Absenteeism (Profit)? Then you need copies of the BI models Absenteeism (Profit) and Filter authorisation employee advanced (Profit). This allows you to apply Row-level security (RLS) in Power BI. In the example, this means that the logged-in BI user only sees absence data he has rights to.

Download Power BI templates from Profit

Working with BI gets a little easier again. You no longer need to go to the Help Center to download a BI template, you now do this directly through Profit.

Additional fields have been added in the BI model view, showing when the template was last prepared and published. The Last read column shows the last time the template was called by the odata-connector. In other words, the last time the data in the associated dashboards was refreshed

For each template, we now also keep a version number, starting with version 1.00. How do we work with the versions?

  • Minor changes, such as a change in a script or fixing a typo, only create intermediate versions such as 1.01, 1.02, etc. These changes apply to the Profit templates as well as to the copies of these that you have made yourself. You only need to download your own copy to have the latest version.
  • Changes to the data model, for example a new table or field, also create a new main version such as version 2. These changes are not made to your own copies of Profit templates. To have the latest changes, you need to copy the Profit template, publish the copy and download it.

Transport totals in the new ReportGenerator

With transport totals, you display running totals in a report. This is useful for lists that run through several pages. At the top of each page, you will see the total up to the previous page. At the bottom of each page, you will see the total including the current page. You decide where the transport total will be placed.

Fields or sections in a report visible under certain conditions

You can now show fields, sections and subreports if a certain condition is met. The condition is a field filter, e.g. Amount > 0. This allows you to achieve, for example, that the message 'Very high balance' appears on a balance list if the balance exceeds € 50,000. Or you show certain additional information (in a subreport) only if the phone number is known. No scripting is needed for this, a simple filter rule is enough!

Filtering available in even more views

In Profit, you have handy filtering options in almost all views! Occasionally, you could not filter, such as in the Salary Processing Cockpit under the Output action or in the environment settings on the Activations tab. Full filtering functionality is now available in these places as well. So you filter here as usual too. Of course, you can also save a filter for future use.

More great functionality

  • Logging on activations
Enabling or disabling an activation in the environment settings will always be logged from now on. We log the activations that are enabled or disabled, when this happens and by which user. You can find the logged rules in General / Setup / Log in the Logging activations view.
